Choosing a Vanity

There is a wide range of vanities available on the market today. There are several things that should be considered before a purchase is made.

How often will the space be used? Some material will hold up better than others. Some vanities will offer more storage space. A bathroom that is rarely used (guest bathroom or 1/2 bath) can afford a smaller vanity and a less durable material.

Who will use the space? If kids will be in the space on a regular basis then look for something that can take the beating (and the water) that is sure to make its way into the bathroom.

How much space is there in the bathroom FOR the vanity? A small bathroom that needs no extra storage might look bigger without a vanity (using a pedestal sink instead). A large space can usually take a bulky vanity with plenty of storage (possible a place for even the bed linens).

Framed or Frameless? The framed vanities resemble kitchen cabinets in that they are designed with a box frame. Frameless vanities provide a more modern (or European) look to the space.

Tip: Multiple sink vanities are a very good choice in bathrooms that offer the space and have high traffic.

Tip: Budget for your bathroom BEFORE you go shopping and keep your vanity choice in your budget.

Tip: Keep your bathroom vanity within the style of the home – at least to some extent. You want the bathroom to flow with the rest of the house.

Tip: Always get more storage space than you think you need because you are always going to want more storage space than you have.
